What advantage do “public” favorites have?

Use “public” favorites to help other users find and use your favorite already saved.

Since you usually save only good quality sites as favorites, you contribute to making it easier for other users to search the web. Maybe it’s your link, that answers the user’s question.

So everyone can contribute to a high-quality network of links to provide, with the appropriate tags (keywords), everyones life easier.

Particularly protectable links, such as of course, links to your intranet or NAS should be marked as private. That’s fine too. Links marked as “private” will never appear to another user!

If you mark a link as public you should not forget – other users share their links with you too!
